On 10 June 2020, the monitoring group of the LIFE CoHaBit project made a field visit to examine the achieved results in Vakarbuļļi and Daugavgrīva. The meeting was attended by representatives from the City Development Department and the Housing and Environment Department of Riga city Council, the Nature Conservation Agency, JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”, LLC “Rīgas meži”, the State Regional Development Agency, the Department of Nature Conservation of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, representatives from the Development and Planning Department of Carnikava county municipality, project LIFE CoHaBit, and association “Baltijas krasti”.
During the tour, the project areas where practical habitat restoration work – conservation and restoration measures of coastal grasslands and lagoons – was carried out were examined. The purpose and plan of the works, carrying out of works and monitoring of results were discussed.
The participants of the monitoring group were introduced to the selected work methods for management and restoration of the Vakarbuļļi Meadow and Daugavgrīva lagoon complex, technical solutions and challenges during the work.
At the end of the visit, the area of restriction of invasive alien plant species was visited, where instead of Canada Goldenrods, Himalayan Balsams, shrubs and reeds, seaside grassland territory was restored.
